How to search for and find print books at the library

Reference books are located on the first floor. These books can only be used in the library, however copies of pages/chapters can be made for you to take.

Call numbers A-J are found on the second floor; K-Z are found on the 3rd floor.  These can be checked out using your 4Cs library barcode found on your student ID card.

DVDs are in the IMS room on the first floor. Due to its location, you will not be able to browse the titles we have, but they can all be searched in the CLAMS catalog and most of the titles can be checked out.

Important Sections by Call Number:

  • BL (Religions, Mythology)
  • GR (Folklore)
  • ML (Music)
  • N (Art)
  • P (Literature)

Tips for searching the CLAMS catalog:

  • When searching the catalog, stick to simple keyword terms instead pf phrases (Use terms like: Mythology, World Mythology, Folklore, American Myth, etc).
  • Use the title or author search if you are looking for a specific book.
  • Using the link to the catalog above, you will already be searching the Wilkens Library collection. If you are not finding titles you are looking for, you can select the "All CLAMS libraries" tab to search other libraries on the Cape. You can use your library barcode to request titles to be sent to the Wilkens Library for check out.
  • Each item in the CLAMS catalog is assigned subjects. Click the subjects listed on the item to find more like it.

Throughout this guide, there will be a selection of suggested titles based on a topic, group, or region. Please note this is not a complete list of titles on these research areas. Check the CLAMS catalog for a full listing.
