Transparent Language for Libraries from Massachusetts Library System

Tips for using Transparent Language for Libraries:

  • You do not need to create an account. You can click on "continue as guest". If you see a box asking you to create an account a second time, you can just close the box.
  • If you do create an account, you can save your progress in the tutorials, your learned vocabulary and more.
  • To use the English Language tutorials, choose English as your language. Then you can choose from an alphabetical list of languages (Arabic, Chinese, Brazilian Portugese, Hindi, Spanish, Ukrainian, Urdu, etc.)
  • Once you have chosen, you can click through a tour of the site (click on the box that says "continue" to do this)
  • When you have finished the tour, you can start doing the tutorials.

Gale Global Issues (Read about global issues in different languages)

You can use the translation button in the ribbon at the very top of the page (just above the flags) to search in the language of your choice.

Search for a topic or browse issues. Once you click on an article title, you can use the translation feature (first round button to the far left of the screen under "date") to read in a different language.

Read the Local Newspaper!

Click on the second link (image format) to read the local paper. Choose a date, click on the link and then use the arrow or the drop down menu at upper right to the turn pages.
